Reykjavík University is looking to hire a leading faculty member in Construction Management within the Department of Civil Engineering.

The School of Science and Engineering established masters programs in civil engineering (construction management, transport and urban planning, concrete technology, structural design) in 2006. Plans are underway to expand the program, strengthen its research focus and offer international MSc and PhD programs. The aim is to develop an internationally recognized program in the field, expand the student population to include a growing number of suitably qualified overseas applicants, and to obtain accreditation to offer doctoral studies. At the same time the school will be offering graduate programs in several other fields of engineering, starting in 2008. As a step towards presenting our construction management program to the research community in Northern Europe and Northern America, Reykjavik University will be hosting the 5th Nordic Conference on Construction Economics and Organization in June 2009. See: www.ru.is/5thnordic

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the postgraduate Master of Science Construction Management program and the research base that will underpin it over the coming years. The position offers an opportunity to shape and influence a new and growing program, within a fast growing entrepreneurial university.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering, construction management or closely related fields, and be established members of the international research community. Candidates can specialise in any branch of construction management, including project management, design, production engineering, facilities management and applied information technology. Applied experience in relevant fields is highly appreciated, as is demonstrated teaching excellence and leadership skills.
Position levels can range from assistant professor to full professor, depending on the qualifications of the applicant. Salary level is negotiable and relocation assistance is offered. The position is available immediately, but starting date is negotiable. We may fill more than one position, depending on the number and level of qualified applicants.

Informal communication and discussions are encouraged, and interested candidates are encouraged to contact the Dean, Dr. Gunnar G. Tomasson (gunnargt@ru.is), for further information.

Applications should be sent by email to appl@ru.is (subject: “Construction Management”), and should include a CV, a list of publications, a statement of research, a statement of teaching, a list of contacts for references and other relevant information. Copies of two or three major publications may also be included in the application. We will review applications as they arrive.

Iceland is home to several successful industrial enterprises with substantial international operations. Reykjavik University and the engineering program in particular are fortunate in having substantial industry support for both its educational programmes and research. Furthermore, the University has established ties with several leading foreign universities, which facilitates faculty and student exchanges.
