Employment

I am an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science at Reykjavik University (RU). I joined RU in 2000 after having spent about 8 years working for trading firms and investments banks in the USA, England and Iceland. I finished my Ph.D. in Natural Language Processing from University of Sheffield in 2007.

Research

Language Technology (LT) with special emphasis on Natural Language Processing (NLP).

My current research interest is developing a Basic Language Resource Kit (BLARK) for the Icelandic language - including modules to perform morphological analysis, part-of-speech tagging, and parsing. A BLARK for a language is the minimal set of basic resources (software modules, corpora, dictionaries, etc.) that is necessary to do further research and development in the field of LT.

I have developed a suite of BLARK modules, called IceNLP. A web interface for IceNLP is here.

Further information about my research, publications and grants can be found in the NLP pages at RU.

Teaching

I have mainly taught the courses Programming Languages and Compilers at BSc level and courses in NLP at MSc level. See further here.
